happy birthday to my whole world
Sashika
ten of them I've spent loving you
The last birthday I'll ever spend away from you, and the best is still to come.
I build websites for a living, but in all my years as a developer, I've never made anything like this, for anyone but you. Happy birthday, my love. I hope this little page keeps you smiling.
To the girl I was never supposed to meet,
The principal forced you into A/L Combined Maths, a subject you never wanted, and that one small accident put you in my class, and handed me my whole life. Ten years, three bikes and a van, and a university 300 kilometres away that I somehow never minded. We fought, sometimes you blocked my number and we didn't speak for weeks, but I always won you back on those long university drives. One answer never changed: still you, still us. This is the last birthday I'll spend away from you, so I built you this.
every single day
you're my lock screen, the first face I see when I wake, and the last before I sleep
us, in moments
the ones I'd relive a thousand times
our story so far
the best chapters, and the ones still unwritten
“why didn't you tell me class was cancelled?”
The principal forced you into A/L Combined Maths, the same class as me, and on the very first day you sat and talked to my friend beside me for ages, never once glancing at me. That's exactly what got me. Then a class got cancelled and I hadn't told you, you waited four hours at school, got my number from someone, and texted me those exact words. That message was our very first conversation.
we fell without noticing
We called it friendship for months, even as we stopped being able to go a single day without talking. We were in love long before either of us dared to say the word.
“why shouldn't friends get married?”
Half-testing, I told you that if you weren't my friend, I'd marry you. You just smiled and asked that back. I proposed that day and told you to take all the time you needed, you said yes a few hours later.
the miles
First, little rides out to Matale park on my early bikes. Then the Hornet, a few hard rides to your university, and countless times I rode out to meet you halfway home. These last two years, the van, where we finally talk the whole way. More fights than I can count, some so bad you blocked my number for weeks, but every single time, I won you back on those long university roads.
husband and wife
Both our families have said yes. Early next year I finally get to call you my wife, and this becomes the last birthday I ever spend away from you.
just you
the birthday girl, every version of you I adore

28 little reasons
one for every year you've been you
and you've been mine for
…and every second, I fall a little more
sixty minutes to midnight
our last call before midnight, I just wanted to be the first to see your smile
and this is you, today
the photo you sent me this evening, the one I've looked at more times than I'd ever admit
so, my love,
Happy 28th Birthday, Sashika
In ten years together, we've never once been side by side on your birthday, and now, with you 300 kilometres away, the distance is real. I have hated every one of those days I couldn't just hold you. This is the last one I'll ever spend without you. No more gifts that only show up when you need something, from now on, I show up. Every birthday, every ordinary day, every mile. I'm yours.
forever yours,
Perinbaselvan
